Racketball has been gaining popularity around the UK for some years now. The UK racketball website notes it is easier to learn & play than squash, but is difficult to master. Benefits are that it is less stressful on the body and for many can provide a longer level of high intensity work-out (due to longer rallies) than squash. This means Racketball is often transitioned to by many squash players, including many top pros – Daryl Selby being a prime example. In line with a number of other Scottish Squash clubs (Scottish Annual Racketball Open Championship was held at Dumfries Squash Club this year), the Western is adding a Racketball ladder, to operate in the same way as the squash ladder. Initially, the ladder will be open to both male and female; which can be split into separate ladders & leagues if and when demand dictates. If you are interested in joining the ladder - which is to be located on the squash notice board – please add your name and make a challenge ! The rules will be posted on the same notice board. Nigel Chadwick has offered to drive this forward (and had the idea in the first place) so feel free to contact him if you wish.
