Pre-season team competition

This message is intended for the men's squash team players. From: Geoff Cordwell (Squash Convenor) Hi all You may recall that I suggested that I would organise a pre-season competition to give all players the opportunity to challenge for a team place in the team that they aspire to play in. Accordingly I have asked Martin Woods to organise this event on Sunday 14th September between 6.45 and 9.30. This event will replace (on this night only) the the normal social night (sorry everyone). Players that enter will be organised by Martin in to groups and will play each member of the group they are in. Time constraints dictate this will have to be a best of three games. I will help Martin organise the groups to ensure they are competitive and I hope groups that reflect the team selection difficulties the various captains face this year. There will be a modest entry fee of £2 per player but the lights will be free, so in this way you will pay only 50p more than you would do if you pay for lights. I hope that you can support this idea, it is important that everyone feels that they have a fair chance to play at the level that they desire. To do that we need as many as possible to participate. Obviously if you cannot make it that is not a problem. Teams will be selected by the Captains on merit regardless of wether you take part in this plan. Please reply to me directly to indicate your entry. If successful Martin is hoping to organise more weekend competitions at the club during the season so watch this space. Geoff Cordwell
